These structures and knits were developed by Elnaz Yazdani in our group. The thick wire knits echo the wire fencing in Ancoats, the area in Manchester where we are proposing our design festival. The wool knits are threaded with wire and could be made large scale as a pop-up space.
Pop-up structures designed by Devendra Kumar. These are small models visualised into real spaces. The Great Ancoats road is a problem in terms of access from the Northern Quarter of Manchester into Ancoats. We imagined a temporary playful solution – a bridge made out of scaled up umbrella parts spanning the road!
These are Grace Sindall’s knitted pop-up structures. The knitting is threaded with wire to enable a flexible space. In theory these could be made large scale.
